As feis organizers, we want to give you every opportunity to dance. As volunteers, late entries are a huge problem. We must decide on the number of stages, purchase trophies, arrange for judges and musicians, set a stage schedule, issue a competitor list, and print competitor cards. All of this falls apart if we have a large number of late entries. The late fee is an attempt to encourage everybody to do their part to minimize the last minute scramble and problems.
Absolutely!
No, but if you don't practice or attend class I can guarantee you won't do well.
The college operates a snack bar (chips, chocolate, water, Gatorade, coffee, etc.) and a lunch counter (pizza and nachos). Volunteers will be running a barbeque. There are fast food outlets at the entrance to the grounds.
Sorry, the hall isn't designed to accommodate this.
North American Feis Commission rule #26 prohibits any unauthorized photography during competition.
"Any form of unauthorized photography which has the capability to capture a dancer’s image whilst in motion, using electronic or manual means, e.g. mobile phone, standard camera, video camcorder, cine recorder, commercial film, with or without flash enhancement, is expressly forbidden in competition.
A professional photographer will be attending and taking authorized pictures. You may use personal cameras during award ceremonies.
If you check on the List of Entrants page you will see that you can view registered competitors by dancer, school, or competition. This list will be updated as the feis date approaches.
For many reasons, we have decided to join those feiseanna who are charging competitors a set fee ($15) to pay admission for all the spectators that come with them to the feis. There will be no admission charged to enter the building on the day of the feis.
A lot of unhappiness can arise when you try to figure out why you placed in a particular spot. How can a judge figure out who is 15th and who is 16th out of 100 dancers? How can I place 22nd if I got an 18th, 20th, and 21st? How can one judge give me 10th when the other two gave me 2nd? Jim Montague has written an excellent explanation. It's posted on the Broesler School website.
This is something the feis committees in our region have agonized over. The situation is that we try to run the feiseanna without losing money. Years ago we tried to estimate how many visitors we would get and set an admission fee to cover our costs. In recent years we decided to estimate the number of competitors from different addresses and we split our costs among them as the "admission fee". It works really well. In the old system a family that brought grandparents or friends to watch would be taking a large part of the burden. Under the present system dancers can bring any number of supporters for no additional cost. It does seem that you will be paying for an unused benefit but that is the system we are using so yes, we do need an admission fee with your registration.
