Mairéad Gavin Memorial Trophy

Mairéad Gavin

June 28, 1994 - August 5, 2012

As a true champion, she always danced with her heart.

The Mairead Gavin Memorial Trophy for Preliminary Championship Under 16 was awarded for the first time in 2012

in memory of Mairéad who passed away in August 2012 at the age of 18.

The Story of the Award

Mairéad was a proud member of the BFOC family. She probably attended more Oireachtas, Nationals All-Irelands and Worlds competitions than most competitive dancers in her short life.  Mairéad was unable to dance with her feet but as a true champion she danced beautifully with her heart.  She danced through her sister Aoife, brother Cian and many friends and took great pride in their abilities. She was a very determined young lady and was passionate about Irish music and dancing and would be delighted to have this trophy named in her honor.

To the recipient of this award we encourage you to always dance with your heart.
